Fatima Shaban
Fatima Shaban is a passionate advocate for the people of Scarborough Southwest. Since she arrived in Canada in 2008, Fatima has become deeply rooted in this vibrant community and committed to social justice and community empowerment. This commitment is deeply personal, fueled by her experiences navigating a new country and her unwavering belief in the power of collective action.
Fatima's journey to becoming a community leader began with pursuing higher education. She recognized the urgent need to advocate for undocumented youth at the University of Toronto, where she graduated with a Criminology and Socio-legal Studies degree and minors in political science and history. She founded an association dedicated to fighting for their right to a legal path to citizenship.
Her record of taking action to meet needs continues today. She is currently employed at The Salvation Army Headquarters in the development/estates department while serving as Treasurer at Regent Heights P.S. School Council, working to ensure that all children have access to a quality education. Fatima is an active member of her community and works to protect access to affordable housing. As a member of ACORN, a community organization dedicated to fighting for the rights of low—and moderate-income families, Fatima is currently organizing for her neighbours to fight against the above-guideline rent increases.
Fatima strongly believes that affordable housing, quality healthcare, and education are fundamental rights. She is dedicated to reducing the cost of living and ensuring that the government works for the benefit of Scarborough Southwest and all Canadians and that these rights are possible for all Canadians.
Fatima is prepared to amplify the voices of her community, advocate for their needs and aspirations and represent Scarborough Southwest as their Member of Parliament.
